Writing desk called a “bonheur du jour”

Writing Desk Called A €Bonheur Du Jour” - 7.2 Ko
(“daytime delight”) in the style
of Louis XVI with rosewood veneer on all sides and rich engraved bronze
ornamentation, opened by a central panel and a drop-leaf which reveals
three small drawers and a secret compartment.
The desk sits on four fluted legs which are accented with engraved bronze
and gilded feet.
Drop-leaf central panel, lacquered Japanese dice embellished with gold
and silver and decorated with birds, phoenixes and characters.
France, circa 1870.
Embossed «BY» in several bronzes corresponding to the monogram of
the cabinetmaker Beurdeley.
